Services held for Wilfred A. Postel

Funeral services for Wilfred A. Postel were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 1999, at the Church of Christ in Primghar, Iowa, with Beryl Hicks officiating. "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden" were sung by Dave Hicks. The organist was Sandy DuBay. The honorary casket bearers were Roger Smith, Charles Ebel, Gaylord Hopkins, Mike Schoening, Lee Cooper and Virgil Crouch. The casket bearers were Nathan Williams, Maurice Cummings, Larry Ebel, George Williams, John DuBay and Allen Bonderman. Interment was at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Primghar, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Wilfred A. Postel of Gilbert, Iowa, passed away January 29, 1999, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on January 2, 1911 in Marcus, Iowa, to Samuel Edward and Edith Imogene (Thomas) Postel. After his graduation from high school in Cleghom, Iowa, he helped his father farm and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and the University of Iowa. He graduated from the Technical Institute of Iowa State University in 1965. In the intervening years he had worked as a farmer, carpenter and surveyor. In 1966 he moved his family from Primghar to Ames, Iowa, where he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement. He also worked for the Memorial Union of Iowa State University.

In recent years he has enjoyed writing, primarily about his family history and farming equipment in the early 1900's. was a member of the Inkspots Writing Club at the Ames Public Library and a life-long member of the Church of Christ, most recently of the North Grand Church of Christ in Ames, Iowa. He and his family enjoyed many trips together throughout the United States and Canada over the years.

Mr. Postel is survived by his wife Marie Brundage Postel with whom he celebrated sixty years of marriage on August 20, 1998. He also leaves two children: Allen Postel and wife Keiko of Ames, Iowa, and Paula Williams and husband George of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and two grandchildren: Amanda and Nathan Williams.

Also surviving him are a sister, Ruth Woods, two brothers: Marion and wife Jean, and Charles and wife Phyllis, sister-in-law, Lois Woods Postel, all of California; and sister-in-law, Myrle Brundage, formerly of Primghar; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Shirley Kaslow; two brothers: Kenneth and Edward; and four nephews: Brian and Burdell Brundage, Jay Woods and John Postel.
