Funeral services for Lucille Hurtig were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2000 at the Zion United Church of Christ- Calumet Iowa. Rev. Lola Rosenberger Officiated. Music included "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "How Great Thou Art" sung by David Fintel. The Congregational Hymn was No. 425 "In The Garden." Organist was Florence Rehder.

Honorary casket bearers were Robert Wright, Ric Sickelka and Mike Hurtig. Casket bearers were Mark Hurtig, Jody Hurtig, Todd Specht, Kent Hurtig, Chad Hurtig and Jeff Hurtig. Interment was in Liberty Township Cemetery, Calumet, Iowa. Arrangements were under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

Lucille Hurtig, the daughter of William and Sophie Ebert Tesch, was born April 14, 1914 on a farm near Germantown, Iowa. She received her education at St. John's Lutheran School at Germantown. On June 26, 1931 she was united in marriage to William Hurtig at her parent's farm home near Germantown. After their marriage, the couple farmed south of Paullina until moving to a farm north of Sutherland in 1956. The couple moved into Paullina in 1970. Lucille had been a resident of the Paullina Care Center since April of 2000. She passed away at the Care Center on Friday, September 29, 2000 reaching the age of 86 years, 5 months and 15 days.

She was baptized and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown and was currently a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet. She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening.

Lucille is survived by her husband William of Paullina; five sons, Waldo Hurtig of Calumet, Loren and his wife Joni Hurtig and Don and his wife LaDonna Hurtig, all of Paullina, Vern and his wife Pam Hurtig of Hewitt, Minnesota and Rich Hurtig and Paula of Bertha, Minnesota, five daughters, Myrna and Lester Sickelka of Round Rock, Texas, Audrey Underwood of Cherokee, Jolene and her husband Kenneth Specht of Primghar, Marge Metheny of Alton and Pam and her husband Pat Hill of Paullina; daughter-in-law Charlene Hurtig of Archer, Iowa; 37 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Hilda Miller of Sioux City; three half-sisters, Marcelia Appeldorn, Ella Appeldorn and Luetta Dau, all of Paullina; one half-brother, Leroy Mesner of Primghar; also a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by daughter Sheryl Rae in infancy, son Mario; two daughters-in-law, Ila Rae and Karen Hurtig; three brothers, Ray Tesch, Ira Tesch and Reinhard Tesch; one sister, Frieda Mesner; 1 granddaughter; 2 great-grandsons and her parents.
