Edward W. Pauling, the son of Edward and Maria Alhusen Pauling, was born March 24, 1896. in Caledonia Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. He received his education first in rural schools and later at St. John's Lutheran School in Germantown. He then began farming in the Germantown area and for many years was in partnership with his brother Emil in the farming operation

On October 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Freida Mesner in Germantown. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Germantown.

She passed away in August of 1966. Ed continued to make his home in Germantown until moving to the Wide View Rest Home in Paullina in June of 1989.

He passed away at the home on Tuesday, January 21, 1992, reaching the age of 95 years, 9 months and 27 days.

He was baptized on April 19, 1896, and later confirmed on April 4, 1909, and was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown.

Ed leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Emil and his wife, Hulda Pauling of Germantown; his step children: Darlene, Geraldine, Darwin and DuWayne; five nieces and nephews: Lorenz Kruse, La Vera Puhrmann, Leslie Kruse, Mary Brandt and Lois Russell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one sister, Ida Kruse; and niece Leona Herzberg.

Funeral services for Edward W. Pauling were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 24, 1992, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa, with Rev. Charles Kramer officiating. The pallbearers were Harold Russell, Lorenz Krusc. Clifford Puhrmann, Maynard Brandt, Leslie Kruse and Craig Pauling. The final resting place is St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown, Iowa, under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina.
