Funeral services for Lily Caroline
Hintz Nichtern were held at 1:30
p.m., Monday, July 13, 1998 at
Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
Pastor David Renfro officiated.
Interment was in Waterman Cemetery
in Sutherland.

Lily passed away at the Villa
Nursing Home in Cherokee, Iowa, on
Friday, July 10, 1998 at the age of
100.

Lily Caroline Hintz Nichtern, the
daughter of Sigmund and Minnie
Schluntz Matzdorff, was born November
1, 1897 in Afton Township,
Iowa. Her childhood years were
spent in Afton Township, where she
received her education in country
schools.

Lily married William Hintz on
November 30, 1916 in South Sioux
City, Iowa. Following their marriage,
they farmed in Northwest Iowa, until
moving to Sutherland. William
passed away in 1957.

Lilly married Harvey Nichtern in
1959 and they continued to live in
Sutherland, until moving to Spencer,
Iowa.

She was a member of Bethel
Lutheran Church. Lily also enjoyed
flowers, gardening, quilting and crocheting,
and loved to play bingo.

She was preceded in death by her
parents; two husbands, William and
Harvey; one daughter, Evelyn Austin;
five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by three sons,
Marvin Hintz of Clinton, IA, Arlin
Hintz of Marshalltown, IA and William
and his wife Mary Hintz, of
Clinton, IA; two daughters, Thelma
and her husband, Vernon Willits of
Camanche, IA, and Adeline Malone,
of Albuquerque, NM; 19 grandchildren
several great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews; other
relatives and friends.
