Sophie Egdorf (1832-1903)

Grandma Egdorf, who had for several weeks been seriously ill with lung fever, died at the home of her son William in this township on Wednesday, March 4,1903, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 2 days.

Mrs. Sophie Egdorf was born in Germany February 2,1832. In 1876 she with her husband and family landed on America's shore and located in Illinois. In 1891, they came to Iowa, and in 1896, the husband was called to the other shore. From that time the old lady has made her home with her son William on section 3.

Funeral services were held from the Germantown church Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Euterment being made at that place. Rev. Horn, of Germantown, officiating. The pall bearers were; John Krumm, Frank Greve, Henry Siemsglusz, Sonke Bahnsen, Fred Willert and Diedrick Proehl.

The deceased leaves six sons and one daughter to mourn her demise. The sons are August and William Egdorf, of Baker township, Charles Egdorf of Monee, Ill., John Egdorf of Madison, Ill., Louis Egdorf of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Fred Egdorf of Germany, and the daughter, Mrs. Lena Wrede of Caledonia township.
