1874 HERMAN STAMER 1940

On Friday afternoon, October 11th, a pioneer resident of O'Brien county, Herman Stamer, was laid to rest in the cemetery of St. John Lutheran church, of Germantown. Burial rites were conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ebel, the latter a niece of the deceased, and at the church immediately following. In the church service the pastor of the deceased, the Rev W. H. Jurgens, delivered an English sermon on the words of David, recorded 1 Samuel 20, 3b "There is but a step between me and death " The German sermon was preached on the basis of the words of St. Paul In 1 Corinthians 6, 14. The Congregation sang appropriate hymns.

The deceased was born in Clayton county, Iowa, near Gutenberg, on May 4th, 1874, the youngest child of John Stamer and his wife, Mary nee Steinberg. A year later to the day, May 4th, 1874, he was brought to O'Brien County by his parents, accompanied by his brother, John, and his two sisters, Minnie, who later became Mrs. Theodore Breitbarth, and Dora who was later known as Mrs. Fred Lustfeld, all of whom preceded him in death. Ever since that time he had made his home in this vicinity, making a business of his filling-station, 5 miles northwest of Germantown for many years.

In early infancy he was brought to holy Baptism, where he was received Into Christ's Kingdom oi grace, made a child of God and an heir of heaven. On March 25th, 1888, he was confirmed by the sainted Pastor Ernest Zuerrer

Early this spring he removed to Germantown, where he made his home with the Fred Ebel family. Tuesday afternoon, October 8th, he departed this life, at the age of 66 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

His mortal remains were borne to the grave by Messrs. Arthur Pauling, Walter Ebel, Henry Koehlmoos, John K. Tesch, Edwin Ebel and Ernest Hoppe. He is survied by a host of near and distant relatives and also many friends.

Among those who attended the burial rites from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lustfeld and baby of Salem, S.Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Breitbarth of Washta, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Langholz of Gaza.
