Mrs. Dora Scherner Dies In Hospital

Dora Scherner, 74, long-time resident of O'Brien County and the Calumet community passed away Friday morning at Sioux Valley hospital at Cherokee. She had suffered a stroke earlier in the week.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon on 2 o'clock from the Baumgarten Funeral Home at Sutherland. The Rev. Warren Bintz, pastor of the Sutherland Methodist church, was in charge. Mrs. Silas Steele and Mrs. Bernard Watterson, accompanied by Mrs. Otis Hulser sang "In The Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Pallbearers were Ed Wolter, Ernest Fedderscn, Roy Lockwood, Bruno Paulsen, John Hoeppner and Nick Clausen. Mrs. John Hoeppner and Mrs. Roy Lockwood, took care of the flowers. Burial was in Liberty township cemetery at Calumet. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Earl Moler, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hons and Mrs. Margarete Rehder, all of Calumet.

1887—Mrs. Dora Scherner—1961

Mrs. Dora Hoppe Scherner, the daughter of John Henry and Anna Marie Konenkamp Hoppe, was born in Hanover, Germany, January 27, 1887, and passed from this life, January 8, 1961, while a patient in the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.

At the age of two years she came from Germany to O'Brien County, spending all of the intervening years in the county, mostly in the Calumet community. As a child she attended the schools close to where she lived

On January 28, 1905, she was united in marriage to Mr. Hans I Scherner, the wedding having been performed in Primghar, la. To them was bom a daughter, Lillle.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and her husband in March, 1949.

Those who survive include two sisters, Mrs Margarete Rehder, and Mrs. Mary Hons, of Calumet, Iowa, her daughter, Mrs. Earl (Lillie) Moler, of Calumet, Ia., and other relatives. Services under the direction of Baumgartens were held in the Sutherland Funeral Home, Monday afternoon, January 9, 1961, 2 p.m. The Rev. Warren A Bintz, pastor of the Sutherland Methodist Church was in charge. Burial was made in the Liberty Township cemetery.
