Services Held for Carl J. Schmith

Services for Carl J. Schmith were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 1984, at St: John's Lutheran Church at Germantown, Iowa, with Rev. Charles Kramer officiating. Pallbearers were Clarence Schmith,.Charles Schmith, Robert Schmith, Leonard Kuester, Dean Schmith and Harry Rohlfsen. "Just as I Am"-and "Rock of Ages" were sung by the congregation with Debra Russell at the organ. The final resting place is at Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa; The arrangements were under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Carl John Schmith, the son of Charles and Ida Steinberg Schmith, was born December 23, 1901, near Granville, in O'Brien County, Iowa. He attended schools in Germantown at St. John's Lutheran Church School. He then was employed at various farms in O'Brien County for many years before retiring in 1978.

He continued to make his home in Paullina before passing away on Tuesday, August 21, 1984, reaching the age of 82 years, 7 months and 28 days.

Carl was baptized on January 13,1902, and confirmed on March 28, 1915, and was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. Carl is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hulda Kuester of Paullina; two brothers, Ray of Paullina and Arnold of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews and. a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.
