PIONEER PASSES AWAY.

The death of Mr. Joseph Henderson of this township, at about two o'clock in the afternoon on Monday of this week was reported and the report was eceived in various quarters with considerable surprise. Although Mr. Henderson had been ill for nearly a year and his condition had been no doubt critical during the last few weeks of his sickness, there were but few aside from the family or neighbors who were aware of his serious condition. Being a pioneer of this community and quite widely known, it is not strange that the news of his death flashed so quickly over the community. Cancer is given as the cause of death.

Joseph Henderson was born November 17, 1842, in Canada; died November 26,1906, aged 64 years and 9 days. Deceased was the tenth child of fourteen to be born to William and Susan Henderson, near Quebec, Canada He lived for two years during the sixties on the Pacific coast.

On January 27, 1874, at Inverness, Providence of Quebec, he was united in marriage to the wife who survives him. Nine years later he moved to Iowa where he has since resided. All his six children survive him. They are Mrs Chas. Reifsteck of Calumet, the only one to be married, George, Beatrice, Lawrence, Violet and Grace. The latter are all at home

Deceased was born, reared and baptized in the Episcopal church but on coming to Iowa the family united with the Presbyterian church of which they remained consistent members. His sickness dates back over a year ago. Throughout his sickness he was hopeful, cheerful and prayerful. He was aware of the hopelessness of his case toward the end which came peacefully and in time to have the family gather about him. The end came without apparent pain.

The funeral was held on Wednesday at the Presbyterian church in Paullina, Rev. Dr. Thompson, his pastor, being in charge of the service The remains were taken to Prairie View for burial.
