The sad expectations of relatives were realized on Monday evening by the death of George R. Henderson at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.F. Head, south of Paullina. Mrs. Head had been carefully nursing her father during his sickness at his home in Paullina and after voting here on Election Day, at his own request, he was taken to the lady's home. The cause of Mr. Henderson's sickness and death was known as rose cancer of the face, the disease making itself first manifest about two years ago. Medical advice was sought soon afterward, treatment was administered but relief came not, and he passed away in almost full consciousness and fully resigned surrounded by his near relatives.

The funeral was held Wednesday from the place of his death and, as near as possible, in accordance with his wishes. Rev. Hathaway said a few brief words of consolation and the remains of a good, true soul were laid in Union Cemetery.

As a near friend of the deceased was requested to write a biographical sketch of Mr. Henderson's life, we defer the publication of anything at this time save a brief sketch of his career.

George Robert Henderson was born in the city of Quebec, Canada, April 12, 1830, and was therefore 67 years 7 months and 24 days of age. He removed to the United States when 17 years of age.

He was married in 1856 to Nancy Terry of Vermont. They moved to Scott County, Iowa, in 1857.

Four of the seven children born to them are living here. They are John Henderson, Mrs. W.F. Head, Joe and Henry Henderson.

On December 11, 1868, he suffered the loss of his wife.

November 4, 1869, he was united to Sarah C. Terry. They moved to Cherokee county in 1875. Of the seven children born of this union there survive three, Nancy, Lizzie and Orville, the latter five years of age.

Most of his life since moving to Cherokee county was passed on the old farm on section 3, Liberty township. He came to Paullina in March, 1897. His wife and the younger children still remain here.

For some time deceased was president of the Farmers State Bank at this place. The gentleman held radical though reserved opinions upon political and religious subjects; was honest in his opinion as well as his dealings with men and was charitable, generous, and kind.
