Johnnes Hurtig

Johnnes Henrich Hurtig, son of Johnnes and Katherine Hurtig, was born at Wanderup Holstein, Germany, on April 22, 1885 and died on May 8, 1950 at his home, at the age of 65 years and 16 days.

On May 15, 1910 he was united in marriage to Margarette Hansen of Germany They lived in Germany the first two years of their married life In October of 1912 they came to America and settled near Calumet.

To this union six children were born, two of which preceded their father in death. Alden as an infant, and Vernon fell in the second World War.

In 1920 they moved to a farm near Gcrmantown where they continued to farm for 20 years. In 1948 they retired and moved to Puullina, where he was living at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Margarette, his two sons, Henry and Bill and daughter Alma (Mrs. Ira Tesch) of Paullina; and Erna (Mrs. Harry Rasmussen) of Marcus: and 17 grandchildren. Two brothers, Ben, of Bellflower, Calif., and Nick of Paullina, Mrs. Hans _(Meier?)_ of Holstein, Germany, Mrs. Hans Sieh of Gaza, Mrs. Max Paulsen of Paullina, Mrs. William Rehder of Calumet, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 11 at 1:30 at the home, at 2 pm at Zions Evangelical. Interment was at Prairie View. [sic - burial is actually Liberty, Calumet]
