Services held for Earl Buse

Funeral services for Earl Buse were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church at Paullina, Iowa, with Rev Steven Hayden officiating. "Amazing Grace," "Precious Lord," and "Because He Lives" were sung by the Archer Men's Quartet, consisting of George Blankers, Myron Meyer, Dave DeKok and Virgil Menning. They were accompanied by Esther Meyer. The organist was Alice Fintel. Patty and Galen Volhnk and Kent and Laura Lundquist were in charge of flowers. The casket bearers were George Blankers, Bert DeKok, Steve Lemke. Richard Evenson, Duane Reimers and Duane Heschke. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldndge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Earl Buse, the son of William and Mary (Adam) Buse, was born May 24, 1913, in Primghar, Iowa. He attended school in Primghar and in country school near Primghar.

He married Mildred Stangeland in September 1938. They lived and farmed near Pipestone, Minnesota for three years. They then moved to the Primghar area and farmed for 38 years.

Earl married Zelda Christensen in March 1977 and they lived on 40 acres near Archer, Iowa since then. For years they raised quarter horses He has been a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for the last 20 years. At one time he was a trustee at the Congregational Church in Primghar. Earl was a long-time member of both Town and Country Saddle Club and Northwest Iowa Quarter Horse Breeders Association, serving many years as director in both. Earl always enjoyed farmwork and horses. He did much trailriding and he liked both riding and driving horses. His last driving team was small ponies that he sold only a couple years ago when his health prevented him driving them.

Earl leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Zelda, of Archer; one son, Raymond and Helen Buse of Brookings, South Dakota, two daughters: Mary and Jim Wagenaar of Archer and Rhonda and Larry Spratto of Pickett, Wisconsin, one daughter-in-law, Lon Buse of Melvin, Iowa; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

His parents; his brother. Lawrence Buse; his sister, Anna Hagen. two infant brothers; one son, Robert Buse; one daughter, Alice Guthridge. and one infant great-granddaughter, Hunter Brookfield, preceded him in death.
