Funeral For Mrs. Hiedeman Held
Young Woman Killed By Fire,
Buried in Peterson Cemetery

Funeral Services were held Friday for Mrs. George Heideman, the former Doris Heick, who died at the Sioux Valley Hospital at Cherokee Wednesday morning from burns which destroyed her home.

Thus begins the obituary of Doris Heideman nee Heick.

The newspaper copy of the Peterson Patriot of October 10, 1946 (Page 1) is very poor, and not many details can be gleaned from it. This researcher did find that Mrs. Hiedeman was the first-born daughter of Walter and Leota (Bailey) Heick on July 25, 1927.

It appears that she was a woman of faith, as her baptism, confirmation, and church membership is chronicled in her obituary, but it's illegible in the online copy.

She was married to George Arthur Hiedeman of Breckenridge, MN., in an elegant formal wedding on September 2, 1945 in Peterson.

She died, presumably of shock, on October 2, 1946 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Cherokee, Iowa, USA, where she was being treated for burns from the fire that demolished her home.

She left her husband, her parents, and three sisters in Peterson to mourn her death. We know there are two additional sisters, but this information is also illegible. It appears that they lived outside of the Peterson area. She also had seventeen uncles and fifteen aunts, her in-laws, and many other dear relatives and friends.

This information was found in the online copy of the Peterson Patriot dated October 10, 1946, Page 1.
