With Rev. E. E. Greene in charge, funeral rites for Eugene C. Fischer, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fischer of Calumet, who lost his life by drowning in the Little Sioux River July 5, were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Bethel Lutheran church.

Baumgarten's Funeral Home directed the services. Mrs. Harvey Buchendahl, Mrs. Ray Olson, Mrs. LeRoy Pingel and Mrs. Dalton Mugge, accompanied by Mrs. Loren Drefke, sang "Abide With Me" and "Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me".

Pallbearers were Howard Bonderman, Frank Halstrom, Vernon Wittrock, Lloyd Tanner, Dale Parry and William Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Elgersman, Axle Kinblad and Allen Jipp had charge of the flowers.

Interment was in Waterman cemetery.

Eugene Charles Fischer, the son of Robert and Anna Fischer, was born on March 19, 1930, at Pierce, Nebraska. He passed away July 5, 1948, near Sutherland, Iowa, at the age of 18 years, 3 months and 16 days.

His early boyhood days were spent in Nebraska, where he started to school, moving with the rest of the family to Primghar, Iowa, in 1941.

He graduated from Primghar high school in 1947, having been prominent in athletics there.

He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran church of Sutherland, Iowa, had been baptized in St. John's Lutheran church at Pierce, Nebraska, and was confirmed in Grace Lutheran church at Primghar.

Eugene was employed on a farm near Cleghorn for the past year.
Left to mourn his sudden passing are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fischer of Calumet, two sisters: Marvene of Milwaukee, and Delilah (Mrs. Lloyd Lund) of Primghar; 4 brothers: Marlin, Leslie, and Paul of Calumet, and Rahland of Marcus; his grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Strosheim of Lincoln, Neb., and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fischer of Pierce, Nebr., and many other relatives and friends.
