Services held for Marlin R. Jones

Funeral services for Marlin R. Jones were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 1998, at the United Church of Primghar at Primghar, Iowa, with Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. "How Great Thou Art" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" were sung by Caprice Huffman. The organist was Mary Lou Wittrock. The casket bearers were Eric Eichacker, Ryan Miller, Matthew Jones, Ben Louden, Nathaniel Miller, Patrick Jones and Sherri Jones. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Primghar, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Marlin Russell Jones, the son of William H. and Elizabeth Sass Jones, was born on a farm near Washta, Iowa on April 28, 1908. He moved with his family to a farm south of Paullina where he received his education and graduated from Paullina High School. He was then employed by the Long Brothers Elevator in Paullina.

On June 25, 1935 he was united in marriage to Myrne Strand at her parents home in Summit Township near Primghar, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple lived in Paullina for a short time before moving to a farm in Summit Township in O'Brien County, Iowa The couple farmed there until moving to a farm southwest of Primghar. They farmed until the late 1960's when he retired. The couple moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where they made their home until returning to Primghar in 1989.

He was a member of the United Church of Primghar, he was soil conservation minded in his farming and was mechanically inclined in repairing and in developing new ideas in the operation of his farm machinery He also enjoyed woodworking.

Marlin had been a resident of the Primghar Care Center since 1990. He passed away at the Care Center on Friday, March 6, 1998, reaching the age of 89 years, 10 months and 8 days.

Marlin is survived by his wife Myrne of Primghar; four daughters, Marilyn Jones of Marshalltown, Iowa, Karen and her husband Charles Schutt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dorothy and her husband Gordon Louden of Gnnnell, Iowa and Kristine and her husband Gail Stoddard of Titonka, Iowa, two sons. Gary and his wife Bronlyn Jones of Charles City. Iowa and Michael and his wife Shirley Jones of Primghar. Iowa; also 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Vivien Jones of Paullina, Iowa, also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruby Wallin and Eva Moats; two brothers, Daniel Jones and Allyn Jones.
