Hans Christian Ottzen was born January 25, 1854, died December 16, 1941. His age 87 years, 10 months, 21 days. At the age of thirty he emigrated from Schleswig Holstein to Benton County, Iowa, After a short stay in Benton County he came to Northwest Iowa and engaged in farming.

He found a faithful help mate at Remsen,, in Margaretha Dreesen, to whom he was married October 5, 1892.

Three daughters were born to them, Hattie, Mrs. Charley Meyer, Frieda, Mrs. H. J. Lemke, and Martha, Mrs. Henry Buddenhagen. Two of his sisters are also living.

For the past year and longer he was afflicted with, a malignant cancer and suffered much from this disease. Since 1914 he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Paullina.

The funeral was held on Friday, December 19, 1941, and interment was made in Prairie View Cemetery. His death is mourned by his widow, three daughters and their husbands, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, two sisters and many other relatives.
