Mrs. Auguste Niebuhr was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Swenson. She was born June 12, 1875 in Joliet, Ill., and soon after her birth was baptized in the name of the Triune God. In her early childhood, she found a new home with her parents at Aurelia, Iowa. After having received the necessary instruction in the doctrine of the Lutheran church, she was confirmed in 1889.

January 14, 1898 she entered holy wedlock with Mr. George Niebuhr. The newly married couple moved onto the farm in O'Brien Co., which remained the home of the decased until the time of her death. Her marriage was blessed with four sons, all of whom survive her. Besides her husband and four sons, Mrs. Niebuhr leaves her aged mother, three brothers, and two sisters to mourn her death.

During the last six years, Mrs. Niebuhr had not enjoyed good health. Medical aid gave her relief, but could not restore her health. Her chronic condition was aggravated by dropsy which set in a few weeks ago. Hopes were however entertained that she might be cured of this malady. But the Lord's ways are not our ways. Suddenly and unexpectedly she passes away last Wednesday morning at the age of 53 years, 5 months and 8 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon. After a brief service in the home of the deceased, the body was taken to St. John's Lutheran church at Germantown. It was by a last request of Mrs. Niebuhr that her pastor, Rev. H. Steger, preached a German sermon on Psalm 23. Rev. E. J. Otto, of Cherokee, preached an English sermon on Hebrew 13, 14. Her mortal remains were laid to rest on St. John's Lutheran cemetery at Germantown.
