Erwin F. Niebuhr, the son of George and Augusta Swenson Niebuhr, was born November 19, 1912, in O'Brien County, Iowa. He attended schools at St. John's Lutheran School in Germantown. He was baptized on December 8, 1912, and was later confirmed on April 10, 1927, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. Erwin was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and had served as an elder of the church.

On February 14, 1939, he was united in marriage to Clara Fegebank at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage, the couple farmed on the west edge of Paullina for many years until Erwin's retirement in 1965.

The couple remained on the farm until Erwin passing on Sunday, March 15, 1987, at his residence, reaching the age of 75 years, 3 months and 26 days.

Erwin leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Clara of Paullina; one daughter, and son-in-law, Janet and Tom Lange of Paullina; one son, Ronald of Paullina; two grandsons, Mike and Mark Lange; and one great granddaughter, Kelly Lange; one brother, Walter of Paullina; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Ray.
