Alfred Niebuhr Services Held Today

Alfred G. Niebuhr, 80, of Paullina, died Sunday in Sioux Valley Hospital at Cherokee after a brief illness. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. The Rev. Charles Kramer will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina.

Mr. Niebuhr was born Feb. 21, 1899 in Caledonia Township, O'Brien County. He attended rural schools.

He married Hertha Mews Sept. 17, 1928 at Germantown. They farmed in the Granville area until 1967 when they retired and moved into Paullina. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Vernon of San Mateo, Calif, and Robert of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. Jerald (Shirley) Campbell of Pierson, 12 grandchildren; and three brothers, Walter, Kay and Erwin, all of Paullina.

Services Held for Alfred Niebuhr, 80

Funeral services for Alfred G. Niebuhr were held Thursday afternoon, Jan. 24 at St, John Lutheran Church at Germantown, Mr. Niebuhr passed away Sunday, Jan. 20 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee at the age of 80.

Pallbearers were Roger Campbell, Paul Niebuhr, Scott Niebuhr, Russel Campbell, Steven Niebuhr and David Richter. Rev. Charles Kramer was clergyman. Mrs. Jim Benner sang one hymn and the congregation sang two hymns accompanied by Mrs. Dennis Bruns. Mr and Mrs. Alvin Keyser were in charge of flowers. Burial was in St. John Lutheran cemetery near Germantown with arrangements under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Alfred G. Niebuhr. the son of George and Augusta Swenson Niebuhr, was born Feb. 21. 1899 in Caledonia Township in O'Brien County. As a youth Alfred attended country schools and assisted his parents on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Hertha Mews on Sept 17, 1928 in Germantown. The couple farmed in the Granville area until their retirement in 1967 and they moved into Paullina. The couple resided in Paullina until Alfred entered Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, where he passed away on Sunday. Jan. 20, 1900, reaching the age of 80 years, 10 months and 29 days.

Alfred is survived by his wife Hertha; two sons, Vernon of San Mateo, Calif, and Robert of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. Jerald (Shirley) Campbell of Pierson, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Walter, Ray, and Erwin, all of Paullina, and a host of other relatives and friends, He was preceded In death by his parents and a son, Lyle.
