Services Held for Evelyn Matzdorff

Services for Evelyn Matzdorff were held at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Iowa, on Thursday, February 5, 1987, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Leroy Riemer officiating. Jacob Moermond served as soloist and sang "How Great Thou Art" and ''My God and I" accompanied by Helene Drefke at the organ. The congregation sang "For all the Saints" and "Be Still My Soul." Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sierk were in charge of flowers. The casket bearers were Gail Boardman, David Gopperton, Mark Bierman, Roger Gopperton, Billy Peters and Doug Bierman.

The committal service was held at Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa, under the direction of the Baumgarten Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Evelyn Anna Matzdorff, the daughter of William and Louise Treirweiler Ginger, was born November 19, 1917, at Sutherland, Iowa. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1936.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Heick on June 18, 1938 at Vermillion, S.D., and to this union were born two daughters.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Matzdorff on March 19, 1961, at Sutherland, Iowa. She was a lifetime Sutherland area resident and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Federated Women's Home and Garden Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn was a tireless volunteer for many causes and through the years had worked as a telephone operator, bank teller, bookkeeper, clerk and waitress for many businesses.

She passed away at a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., on February 1, 1987, at the age of 69.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant daughter, Larene; three sisters, Lorene Ginger, Louise Steuck and Dorothy Peters; and her husband, Vernon, in 1984.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and her husband, Lonna and Robert McEwan of Savannah, GA.; five grandchildren, [redacted]; one brother: William Ginger of Primghar; and one sister: Mrs. Junior (Betty) Bierman of Pierson, Iowa; as well as other relatives and friends.
