Services held for Thomas L. Clausen

Funeral Services were held for Thomas L. Clausen at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 1988, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa. Rev. Charles Kramer officiated. The pallbearers were Thomas Clausen, John Clausen, Arnold Heldt, Hans Clausen, Carl Heldt, and Terry Straub. The final resting place is Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-, Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Thomas Ludwig Clausen, the son of Herman and Elsabe Andresen Clausen, was bom March 8, 1893, in Pellworm, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed at Pellworm, Germany, and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He received his education in Germany before coming to the United States at the age of 17. He remained in this country for two years before returning to Germany. While in Germany, he served in the Army before being placed in a prisoner of war camp in France. He returned to the United States in 1923 and settled in the Sutherland/Calumet area.

On December 23, 1925, he was united in marriage to Dora Bandholz in Calumet, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed around Paullina for one year before moving to a farm near Sutherland where they farmed until retiring and moving into Calumet in 1944. Dora preceded him in death on December 8, 1956, in Primghar.

On March 12, 1959, he was-united in marriage to Elisabeth Karstens in Calumet, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Paullina. Elisabeth preceded him in death on February 15, 1988 in Primghar.

Thomas continued to make his home in Paullina until entering the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar and passing away on Thursday, September 29, 1988, reaching the age of 95 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his step children; one stepson, Clarence and wife, Leona Bandholz of Sutherland; three step daughters, Bernice and husband, Elmer Wittier of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Bessie and husband, Melburn Carlson of Paullina, and Alice and husband, Kenneth Straub of Paullina; also many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Rolfes of Kiel, Germany; one sister-in-law, Frieda Clausen of Pocahontas, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
