Services Held Monday For Charles Dobbertin

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 2 for Charles J. Dobbertin of Paullina. at St. John Lutheran Church at Germantown Rev. Armin Prowatzke officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Edward Beermann, Walter Fiddelke, Elmer Lange, Leonard Lange, Orlynn Strampe and Edward Dobberin Jr. Vocalists were Mrs. Dick Miller and Mrs. Robert Brandt with Mrs Clarence Hibbing as organist.

OBITUARY

Charles J. Dobbertin, son of Charles and Caroline Kruse Dobbertin was born November 11, 1888 on a farm in Caledonia Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. He was baptized December 3, 1888 and confirmed March 23, 1902 in the Lutheran faith at St. John's in Germantown.

On April 12, 1914 he was united in marriage to Anna Beermann. To this union, four children were born. Mr and Mrs. Dobbertin spent most of their married lives on a farm north of Germantown. In 1953 they retired from farming. Shortly after this he was elected to the office of O'Brien County supervisor, serving in this capacity until 1962. In the past years, Mr. Dobbertin served in many offices of the church, as an elder, trustee, a faithful member of the LLL and chairman of the building committee during construction of the new Lutheran day school.

Mr. Dobbertin died peacefully at his family home in Paullina on Thursday at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 18 days.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Anna; three daughters, Ethel (Mrs. Norman Mattfield) of Baltimore, Md., Lola (Mrs. John Lehmann) of Tinley Park, 111., and Betty (Mrs. Eugene Schuknecht) of Paullina, 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Ida Beermann of Paullina, Mrs. Clara Bethmann of Chicago, Mrs. Bertha Warnke of Pipestone, Minn., and Mrs. Lena Herbst of Long Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four sisters and one brother. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery with the arrangements under the care of Gaudian Funeral Home.
