OBITUARY

Roy Rudolph Jalas, the son of
August Henry and Anna Pauline
Proehl Jalas, was bom November 11,
1922, in Sutherland, Iowa. He attended
Waterman Township District 5 school
until the 8th grade.

Roy married Delores Dorothy Sophie
Menke on July 12, 1942, at Bethel
Lutheran Church in Sutherland,
Iowa. Throughout their married life,
they farmed near Sutherland and
Cherokee, Iowa. They retired in 1984
and moved to Hartley, Iowa, until
1988, when they moved to Paullina,
Iowa. The couple made their home in
Paullina until Roy's passing on
Wednesday, August 27, 1997,
reaching the age of 74 years, 9
months and 16 days.

He was a member of the Bethel
Lutheran Church in Sutherland, was
involved in Men's Club, Concordia
League and had been a trustee at the
church as well as Sunday School
Superintendent.

Roy is survived by his wife, Delores
of Paullina; one son, Richard
and his wife, Susan Jalas of Paullina;
four daughters: Loretta and her husband,
Mike Johannsen of Sutherland,
Iowa, Beverly and her husband, William
Johannsen of Paullina, Iowa,
Donna Rogers of Lincoln, Nebraska
and Vickie and her husband, Jay
Dunn of Merrill, Iowa; also 16
grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren;
one sister and her husband, Bertha and
Chester Wittrock of Sutherland, Iowa;
a brother, August and his wife, Evelyn Jalas Jr.
of Sutherland, Iowa; and a brother-in-
law, Don Ray of Sutherland,
Iowa; also a host of other relatives
and friends.

He was preceded in death by a
son, Robert; his parents and one sister,
Lucille Ray.

Funeral services for Roy R. Jalas
were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday,
August 30, 1997, at the Bethel Lutheran
Church in Sutherland, Iowa,
with Rev. Leroy Riemer officiating.
"You Are Mine" was sung by
Helen Schettler and "How Great
Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and
"Go My Children With My Blessing"
were sung by the congregation.
The organist was Jan Ebel.

The casket bearers were Brad
Jalas, Jeff Johannsen, Marc Johannsen,
Kirk Johannsen, Tom Johannsen,
Gary Johannsen, Michael Johannsen
and Chad Rogers.

Interment was at Waterman
Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa, under
the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge
Funeral Home.
