Lucille Sophie (Jalas) Ray

Lucille Sophie Ray, daughter of August and Anna (Proehl) Jalas, was born November 15, 1915, at her parent's farm near Sutherland, Iowa. She received her education in O'Brien County rural schools. On September 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Don Ray in Dakota City, Nebraska. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Hartley, Iowa, before moving to the Dakota City, South Sioux City, Nebraska, area.

The couple returned to the Sutherland area in 1966 where they continued farming. Lucille passed away on Thursday, August 5, 1993, at the Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, reaching the age of 77 years, 8 months and 20 days.

Lucille was baptized on December 12, 1915, at Calumet, Iowa, and later confirmed on June 2, 1929, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and was currently a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Bethel Helping Hands, KYN, Cheerful Workers, Mothers Clu b and Tripoli Club.

Lucille leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Don of Sutherland; two daughters: Claryce A. and her husband, Mike Welch of Sioux City and Rosezanna M. and her husband, Rev. Gary Landsness of LeMars; one son, Daniel L. and his wife, Penny Ray of Waukee, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Amy Wachter, Molly Welch, Tim, Andrew, Rebecca and Ginny Ray, Daniel, Sarah and Rachel Landsness; one great grandson, Jordan Wachter; two brothers: August (Gus) Jalas of Storm Lake and Roy Jalas of Paullina; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Wittrock of Sutherland; also a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great granddaughter, Kayla Michelle Wachter.
