Marvin H. Johnson

Funeral services for Marvin H. Johnson were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 1992, at the Archer United Methodist Church in Archer, Iowa, with Rev. Lucy Elrick officiating. The pallbearers were Frank Davis, Duane Heerde, Dudley McDowell, John Vander Sluis, Byron Foster and Tom Farnsworth. The honorary pallbearers were Wayne Andersen, Carl Akeson, Orlin Henspeter, Harold DeWaay, Orval Akeson and Lee Williams. The ushers were LeRoy Thornton and Jim Thornton.

The final resting place is Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar, Iowa, under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home. The was a flag presentation by Carl & Orval Akeson for Chateau-Thierry Post of the American Legion.

OBITUARY Marvin H. Johnson, the son of Harry and Alma Idso Johnson was born March 16, 1922, in Baker Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. He received his education in country school and later graduated from Archer High School in 1939. He went on to attend Northwestern Academy in Orange City.

He was called into service during W.W. II in the Navy serving on P.T. boats in the South Pacific. For his service he received the Bronze Star. He returned to the family farm where he engaged in farming.

On June 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Betty Seggerman at the Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled on the family farm.

He returned to college and graduated from Northwestern College in 1964 and later received his Masters Degree from the University of South Dakota in 1966. For over twenty years he was the guidance counselor in the Primghar school system as well as farming the family farm. The couple moved into Archer in 1985 and Marvin retired in 1987 from the Primghar School.

He passed away on Monday, May 4, 1992. at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, after being stricken at his residence reaching the age of 70 years, one month and 18 days.

He was a former member of the Baker Methodist Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was currently a member of the Archer Methodist Church, the Mens Club of the church and for many years taught Sunday School and was currently Secretary of the church. He was a former member of the Baker Township Trustees, the REC Board and after coming home from service, played baseball with the town teams from Archer and Paullina. He was also a member of the Chateau-Thierry Post of the American Legion and was a member of the Archer Library Board.

Marvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Betty of Archer; two sons and their wives: Neil and Susan Johnson of Paullina and Dean and Lissa Johnson of Hospers; two daughters and their husbands: Lynn and Don Blake of Derby, Kansas and Lisa and Murray Winckler of Stuart, Virginia; seven grandchildren; two sisters: Frances and her husband, Bill Bruggom of Sheldon and Audrey Wobken of Urbandale; an uncle and aunt, Ted and Arlene Idso of Archer; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
