Pioneer Mother Passes Away Very Suddenly

This community was shocked at the sudden death of Mrs. Robert Meyer, Sr., which occurred on Wednesday, December 31st, 1930. Her death was due to a heart attack, and came as she was preparing to leave her home for a trip to town. She had reached the age of 64 years, 3 months and 28 days. Funeral service was held Saturday at the Zion Lutheran church, with the Rev. J. Hartmeister, officiating, assisted by Rev. Steger. Interment was made in the local cemetery.

Alvine [sic] Meyer was born September 3rd, 1866 at Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. She was baptized on December 2, 1866, at Davenport, by Rev. Josias Ritter. She was the daughter of Jacob and Margaretha Both. Deceased came to O'Brien county in the spring of 1884 with her parents from Tama county, Iowa. They resided on a farm in this community for many years. In the fall of 1886, on November 28th, she was united in marriage to Robert Meyer, and to this union 12 children were born, two died in infancy, Arthur died at 12 years old and Alwine died when 9 years old. Her husband and eight children survive her. There are five sons and three daughters. They are: Albert, Anna, Robert, Fritz, Ernest, Kathe, Roy and Alice. There are also four daughters-in-law, and eighteen grand children. Deceased also had three brothers and five sisters, two brothers and one sister survive her.

She was a beloved wife and mother and her absence will be felt keenly by the entire family.

The out of town relatives to attend the funeral were: Mr. Jacob Both and daughter, Viola, of Pipestone, MN; Mrs. Amelia Cook and daughter Ella of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Chas Meyer and daughter Ida, and Mr and Mrs E.F. Kraft of Corwith, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meyer, Jr of Iona, MN; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Henry Meyer and sons of Butterfield, MN; Millie Hinke of Hartley; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Struve of Royal, IA; Mr and Mrs. Fred H. Kuehn of Marcus, Iowa.
