Mrs. Katie Schoening Funeral Services held Saturday Afternoon
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church for Mrs. Katie Schoening, 79, who passed away at the Ward hospital at Primghar on Friday night following a week's illness from pneumonia. Rev. Corwin Taylor of Lohrville, former pastor here, and Rev. L. W. Rowse had charge of the services, which were directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home. Mrs. Lyle Youde and Mrs. Silas Steele, with accompaniment by Mrs. Otis Hulser, sang "Going Down the Valley" and "When Storms Have Passed". August Frerk, William Dau, William Johannsen, C. B. Jensen, Henry Moeller and Ernest Wohlert were pallbearers. Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Green and Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Warren had charge of the flowers. Interment was in Waterman cemetery.

1869 - 1948Mrs. Katie Schoening, nee Katie Vogt, was born on October 8, 1869, at Traer, Iowa, the daughter of George and Anna Vogt. She died at Ward Memorial hospital at Primghar, Iowa, on October 20, 1948, just 12 days after her 79th birthday.
He home was at Traer until her marriage on December 4, 1889, to George Schoening. They lived in Minnesota for a short time and at Remsen, Iowa, for 10 years, coming to Sutherland in 1904. She has lived here since that time.
Their marriage was blessed with 7 children, one of whom preceded his mother in death. This was a son, Edmund, who passed away in 1931. Mrs. Schoening was also preceded in death by her husband in 1927. The deceased attended the public school at Traer, Iowa, and was a member of the Methodist church. She had been ill only about a week, suffering from pneumonia.
Surviving her are six children: George and Clara (Mrs. Henry Litka Jr.) of Sutherland; Henry of Primghar; Delbert of Spencer; Raymon and Mrs. Malinda Jensen of Sutherland; on brother, Henry Vogt of Lynd, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Eichner of Hartley, Mrs. Theo Mundt of Clutier, Iowa, Miss Lena Vogt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Ed Schmidt of Dysart, Iowa; 23 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Wohlert, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jansen, Jacob Jansen, Rolf Jebsen, Mrs. Marie Kopp, Mrs. Annie Eichner, Mrs. Henry Steick, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Vogt, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Moeller, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ruby, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Ruby, Mrs. Ortman Kaiser, all of Hartley; Mrs. Christy Koenck, Everly; Mr. and Mrs. Ott Garms, Mrs. Rudy Popp, Mrs. Rudy Henning, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Zinn, Henry Moeller, Moneta; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Vogt and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Schoening, Spencer; Mrs. Rit Sauer, Granville; Mrs. Pete Porter, and Mr. and Mrs. A.
