Obituary
Tillie Hebbel, nee Mast, 77, passed away October 22, at 6:55 p.m. at her homestead near Hartley. She was born on March 6, 1871, near Walcott, Iowa, in Scott County. She came with her parents to O'Brien County on February 24, 1888, where the family settled near Hartley. Here she resided until her marriage on November 15, 1891, to John Hebbel. To this union six children were born, five of whom still survive their mother. Mrs. Hebbel was preceded in death by her husband on April 4, 1942, and one daughter, Alice, on January 25, 1919. On November 25, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Hebbel had the pleasure of celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary.
After Mr. Hebbel's death, Mrs. Hebbel continued to live on the family farm that was pioneered by her husband in 1896. She made her home with her youngest son Fred and his wife Lucille. On April 26, 1942, she was baptized in the faith of the Triune God and Trinity Ev. and Ref. church of Hartley, by the Rev. G. A. Pahl.
Sunday, October 3, she suffered a stroke and was confine to her bed since that time. She leaves to mourn her departure the following children: Myrtle (Mrs. Hugo Petersen), Eva (Mrs. Harry Petersen), Hartley; Harry Hebbel, Spencer; Esther (Mrs. Floyd Pippert), and Fred Hebbel, Hartley. Eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Fick of Hawthorne, Nevada, and Mrs. Lou Toenniges of Rock Island, Ill.; two brothers, George Mast of Primghar, and Fred Mast of Hartley, and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Ev. and Ref. church at Hartley. Pastor Siegfried Dietrich of Calumet officiated.
