Obituary Mrs. B. O. Crooks
Her Death Occurred At Her Home In Waterman Township Thursday April 8th
Mrs. B. O. Crooks departed this life April 8, 1926 at her home in Grant township of pneumonia.
Hattie Thomas was an O’Brien County girl. She was born in Center township Nov. 8th, 1874, being 51 years and 5 months old at the time of her death.
She was married to Benjamin O. Crooks on June 5, 1894 at Sanborn. To this union three children were born:-Nathan W. Crooks, Walter E. Crooks and Mrs. Adolph Hagedorn. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss her aged mother, Mrs. Mabel Thomas of Primghar; four sisters-Mrs. Sarah Ray and Mrs. Frank Hinz of Primghar, Mrs. Andrew Knutson and Mrs. Jessie Gunderson of Sioux City, also five grandchildren and a great number of friends and acquaintances.
Mrs. Crooks and her husband joined the Methodist Church at Primghar in the fall of 1895 and on Sept. 17, 1916 were transferred to the Church of God at Maple Grove and here remained a faithful member to the day of her death.
She was first of all a homemaker, a mother and a helpmate but she never lost sight of her wider responsibilities and privileges. She always counted it a real joy to be of service to others and was very happy when home duties permitted her to work in church or community service. Her task on earth is done and she has inherited the blessed rest laid up for the people of God.
Funeral services were held at the Maple Grove church Saturday conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. W. Cabbage and the remains were taken to Primghar for burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Among those from out of town who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Crooks and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Rush of Spirit Lake; Mrs. Robt. Bowden of Ayrshire; M.A. Conrad and family of Alta; Miss Lettie Smith of Edgerton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. J. Ober of Bigelow, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Watters of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Owen Church of Storm Lake.
