Obituaries
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13, 1982 at 11:00 a.m. at Gaudian Funeral Home, Primghar, for Bessie Shinkle. Rev. John Saxton officiated.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Sampson, Craig Sampson, Galen Sampson and Mark Sampson. Organist was Mrs. LaNan Eldridge. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Primghar.
Bessie Shinkle, daughter of M.M. and Sarah Thomas Ray was born Oct. 14, 1890 in Primghar. She attended Primghar schools and graduated from Primghar High School in 1910. She attended Iowa Methodist Nurses training school, graduating in 1914 as a registered nurse. She was employed in various places in Iowa and California. On May 23, 1916 she was united in marriage to Sanford Shearer. After their marriage the couple lived in the Primghar area, later moving to California where he passed away on March 27, 1936 in Englewood, Ca. On Oct 14, 1945 she was united in marriage to Jacob Shinkle. The couple made their home in California for many years and he passed away on Oct. 29, 1967 in ElMonte, Ca. After his death Bessie returned to Iowa and resided in Ames for a few years before coming to Primghar in Oct 1972 to make her at Primghar Care Center where she resided until entering the Baum-Harmon Hospital and passing away on July 9, 1982, reaching the age of 91 years, eight months and 25 days.
Bessie leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. June Davis of Star, N.C.; one step daughter, Mrs. Adelia Ireland of ElMonte, Ca., and one step son, Jacob Shinkle of Ontario, Ca.; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mable Howley of Sacramento, Ca.; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, two sons, parents and two sisters. ( Handwritten note: 3 sisters.)
