Death of Mr. M. M. Ray
M.M. Ray passed away at eight-ten o’clock Monday morning, Dec 31, 1923 at his home in Primghar from a complication of diseases.
Mr. Ray was born in Durand, Ill., On Jan. 24, 1857. At the age of thirteen he came with his mother to Vinton, where they lived until 1882. At that time they moved to his farm near Primghar and in 1888 he was united in marriage to Sarah Ann Thomas.
He leaves to mourn, besides his wife, four daughters-Miss Alethea, Mrs. Sanford Shearer, Miss Gladys, and Mrs. John Howley-and five grandchildren. Two sisters-Mrs. Emily Phipps of Park Rapids, Minn. And Mrs. Etta Sackett of St. Paul, Minn., also survive.
In 1909 Mr. Ray with his family moved to Primghar, where they have since resided.
He was converted during the pastorate of Rev. Tompkins and united with the Methodist church, where he retained his membership until the time of his death.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Batho. A quartet composed of R. E. Langley, Mrs. Geo. Little, Mrs. Theresa Ohms and Will R. Brown furnished appropriate music.
Altho it was announced a week ago that Mr. Ray was ill, his death on Monday morning was a distinct shock to the entire community.
Mr. Ray in all the many years in this community has enjoyed the respect, the confidence and esteem of everyone who knew him. His never aspired to office nor leadership but devoted himself to his family and sought to fill the place of a good plain, one hundred per cent citizen. In his death the community has suffered a loss as well as the greif-stricken family, who have the deep and sincere sympathy of all.
