Hi Penny
He is listed in the 1880 Federal Census in Muscatine Co., Fulton Twp, as Jacob J. Staton. He is buried in Parr Cemetery and there he is referred to as J.J. Staton d. 5 Dec 1886.

If you look at Probate Records, on the Reference Grid, the Muscatine County Genealogical Society does have a probate file for Jacob J. Staton. It is possible his middle name may be noted. You will have to contact Gladys Mittman, her contact information is listed in the Probate section.
