Middle name of Jacob Staton

I am trying to find definite proof of the middle name of Jacob J. Staton, born in 1801 in Accomack County, VA. In one source, it's listed as John, while in another, it's James. Both are reputable sources, so I don't know which to believe. He and his family originally settled in Muscatine, IA in the mid-1840's, but I don't know whether or not Jacob stayed there until his death. I hope that someone can help me track down the full name of this great-great-uncle of mine.
