Police Capt. Harold F. Wickey Stricken; Services Thursday
Funeral services have been arranged for Harold F. “Sugar” Wickey, 47, member of the Muscatine police force, who died of a heart attack at 6:51 p.m. Monday at the police station.

Wickey was standing at the desk talking to Desk Sgt. D.E. Young when he collapsed, and efforts to revive him were futile. Dr. William Catalona reported death due to a heart attack.

He was first appointed as patrolman with the Muscatine police force on July 1, 1931. On March 19, 1936, he was appointed night captain by Police Chief Ted McGill and served in that capacity until March 18, 1948, when he was named chief of police. He held the position of chief of police util he returned to the rank of captain on April 1, 1950.

Born March 13, 1905, at Muscatine, he was the son of Mary E. and Otto Wickey. His marriage to Marie E. Hummel took place Nov. 25, 1940, in Missouri. He was a life resident of Muscatine and his home was at 404 West Seventh street.

He was affiliated with various Masonic orders, including Iowa Lodge No. 2, AF and AM, Washington Chapter No. 4 R.A.M., El Bey Grotto, the shrine and consistory Rose Croix Shrine No. 5, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Georgiana Court No. 2, Order of Amaranth, and Electa Chapter No. 32, Order of Eastern Star. Also, he held memberships in Aerie 815, Fraternal Order of Eagles, B.P.O. Elks No. 304, and the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 388.

Survivors include is wife; his parents Mrs. Mary E. Wickey of Muscatine and Otto Wickey of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Rober R. Wickey of Moline; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Behrens and Mr. Elizabeth Reynolds, both of Muscatine; and 11 nieces and nephews.

The body is at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home and funeral services with Masonic rites will be held there at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Dr. Joseph m. Kennedy, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
