August Prien, County Resident, Called In Death.

August Albert Prien, aged 77 years, died at his home in Lake township at 1:40 p.m. Sunday after a six week illness with a heart ailment.

The son of John D. Prien and Augusta Wagner Prien, he was born in Davenport on April 2, 1864 and spent the past 42 years in Muscatine county. He married Eliza Hessler on Sept. 6, 1898, near Durant.

Mr. Prien moved with his parents to a farm near Blue Grass and two years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Prien located on their present farm near Muscatine.

He was baptized as an infant and on April 6, 1879 was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church at Davenport, later transferring his membership to Grace Lutheran church of Muscatine where he was an active member until death.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Schmoldt and Mrs. Lenora Young of Muscatine and Mrs. Vida Lowe of Oakdate, Ia., a sister Mrs. Emile Knoll of Ord, Neb., three grandchildren, Mrs. Norma Schmelzer, Miss Almeda Schmoldt and David August Young and one great grandchild, Gary Schmelzer. His parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

The body is at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word form relatives. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
