Funeral services for Fred G. Tharp, 93, were held at Wilton March 6, with burial in Oakwood cemetery at West Liberty. Mr. Tharp died at Muscatine General hospital March 3.

He was born Oct. 24, 1877 near West Liberty, the son of Lee and Sarah Willis Tharp, and lived in the West Liberty area all his life.

Fred Tharp was married to Edith Smith June 29, 1904 at West Liberty. He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist church and a retired farmer. He was a 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias, Wilton Lodge No. 167, AF and AM, past patron of the Purity Chapter, OES, was a member of the town bands in West Liberty, West Branch, Wilton and Nichols many years, also the bands at Davenport Grotto and Cedar Falls Dobk, the Muscatine Moose and Moline Moose.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Marian) Henderson, Wilton; a brother, W. R. Tharp, Iowa City; a sister, Mrs. Roenna Hardin, Long Beach, Calif., 2 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and 3 sisters.
