Funeral services were held at Muscatine Nov. 5 for Duane William (Billy) Brown, 14, route 1, Atalissa.

The Rev. Joseph Stoube officiated. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

The youth died in a shotgun accident near his home Oct. 31 while hunting with a friend, Carl Kruse, 14, Muscatine.

A report filed by the Muscatine county sheriff's office indicates Brown had just crossed a fence and placed his 12-gauge shotgun on a log and it went off, striking him in the upper left side.

Another hunter, Hank Miller of Muscatine, who was in the area, helped Kruse carry Brown to a road on a makeshift stretcher. Dr. William Roudybush, deputy Muscatine county medical examiner, pronounced the youth dead.

A son of Eddie Duane and Jacqueline Garrison Brown, he was born Nov. 8, 1955. He was a student at West Liberty high school.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Kelvin Lee Brown, at home; a half brother, Rickie Duane Brown, Henry, Ill.; a half sister, Mrs. Diana K. Rock, Fort Augustine, Ill.; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Garrison, all of Muscatine; and great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary Moore, Muscatine.
