Myrle R. Abney, 93, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at her home in Muscatine. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in memory of Myrle. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com . Myrle Ruth Abney was born on February 15, 1928, in Conesville, Iowa the daughter of John B. and Inez M. (Lauderdale) Keeler. On February 14, 1947, Myrle was united in marriage of Robert Shaner, Jr. Robert passed away on October 31, 1960. On December 7, 1963, Myrle was united in marriage to Delbert D. Abney in Davenport. She worked at the Muscatine Journal, stating in 1986 until her retirement. Myrle was a member of the International Forester and enjoyed gardening, canning, making jelly, reading, word puzzles, watching Day of Our Lives and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Myrle will be deeply missed by her children, Teresa Tompkins and partner, John Mickey of Homosassa, Florida, Carolyn Wilkens of Muscatine, Richard L. Shaner and partner, Marla of Muscatine, Jeffery (Caroline) Shaner of Muscatine, Doug Abney and partner, Paula Jackson of Muscatine and Darren (Ellen) Abney of Muscatine; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren and one brother, Dale (Jan) Keeler of Muscatine.

Myrle was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Orville VanHorn; two grandsons, Eric and Robert Payne and siblings, Grace Tomasson, Marjorie Lenz and Virginia Forbes.
