Fontayne Ziegenhorn (1937-2021)

MUSCATINE–Fontayne Ziegenhorn, 84, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Lutheran Living Senior Campus.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021, with the funeral service immediately following at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Susan Bantz will officiate. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to National Alliance on Mental Illness or to Muscatine Humane Society. Fontayne was born on July 19, 1937, in Muscatine, the daughter of Robert and Mildred Hartung Coyner. She was raised by her aunt, Alice Coyner. Fontayne enjoyed working on the family farm growing up. She married Floyd Ziegenhorn in Muscatine and continued to farm while also working as a lab technician at Grain Processing Corporation for 38 years. After retiring from Grain Processing, she worked for a few years at Lutheran Living as a CNA and CMA in the Alzheimer's unit where she enjoyed caring for others.

Fontayne had many hobbies, along with farming. She also enjoyed shopping, crafts, sewing, singing, listening to music and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Fontayne loved being around other people. Her sassy charm and humor made her a favorite among caregivers and residents in recent years.

The family wishes to thank Bickford Senior Living, Lutheran Living, Dr. Steven Paulsrud, Dr. Hamid Sagha, and Hospice Compassus for the compassionate care Fontayne received.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Bryan Ziegenhorn, and Andrea Sprague and husband, Corey; grandson, Mackoy Ziegenhorn all of Muscatine; brother, Lynnce Coyner and wife, Sharon, of Peoria, IL; and sister, Renee Cameron of Coralville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fontayne was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenton 'Sonny' Coyner.
