George H. VanAtta, 86, of West Liberty died early Oct. 2 at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, after a brief illness. Services were Oct. 4 at Snider Funeral Home in West Liberty with Reverend Dale Williams officiating. Burial was in Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Campbell, Earl Tindle, Ronald and James Voss, Findley Brooke, Ed Brookhart. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Brooke and Everett Richards.

Mr. Van Atta, a retired farmer, was born Feb. 20, 1878, in Buffalo Prairie, Illinois, the son of John and Annastacia Fisher VanAtta. He had lived in West Liberty most of his life.

He was married Aug. 20, 1902, in Rock Island to Vina Weaver who died Jan. 12, 1962. Mr. Van Atta was a member of the Methodist church.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth, West Liberty; a daughter, Mrs. Edward Voss, Atalissa; 2 grandsons, Ronald and James Voss and 4 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
