NICHOLS, IOWA – Joseph L. Church, 76, Nichols, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Lone Tree Care Center, Lone Tree.

Services: 10:30 a.m. today, Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Lone Tree. Visitation was Sunday, March 6, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial was at Nichols Cemetery.

A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Mr. Church was born March 11, 1928, in Columbus Junction, the son of Joseph F. and Nellie Alstot Church. He married Jessie Mullens in February 1950, in Columbus Junction. She preceded him in death in 1997.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the years of the Korean War.

He was a barber for many years in the Columbus Junction and Nichols area and worked at Rath Meat Packing Co. and IBP, Columbus Junction.

He was a Golden Glove Boxer in Muscatine and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Harry and husband Phil of Reading, Mich., and Donna Garvey of Wilton; a son, Joseph Church, Jr., of Nichols; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Madge Orr of Columbus Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
