Robert D. Applegate, 69, West Liberty died Oct. 10 at a West Liberty nursing home after a long illness. He was the Railway Express agent at West Liberty until ill health forced his retirement.
Funeral services were Oct. 12 with the Rev. Elmer Baker, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. Burial was in Oakridge cemetery.
Born Sept. 8, 1893 at Downey, he was a son of Hyrum and Marie A. Applegate. Before moving to West Liberty 27 years ago, he had lived in Iowa City.
A veteran of World War I, he was a charter member of Roy L. Chopek post of the American Legion in Iowa City and a member of the West Liberty Legion post.
He was married to Pearl Wright Hamilton April 14, 1934, at Iowa City.
Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lowell Andress, Mankato, Minn., one sister, Mrs. Lilly Cox, Iowa City and 2 grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
