Henry Hild, 88, died at 10:20 p.m., Tuesday at his home, 1017 Oak street, Mr. Hild had been in failing health for some time but had been seriously ill but the past week.
He was born at Reichenbauch, Krais Witzenhause, Germany on May 16, 1846. When he was 19 years old he came to America on a sailing ship, the trip taking eight weeks. He arrived in Muscatine on Aug. 20, 1865. Mr. Hild married Elizabeth Reimenschnider about 65 years ago. She died two years ago.
Mr. Hild's first job here was working on Dr. Weed's farm and later he was embloyed by John Barnard, the first man to raise watermelons in Muscatine. He then entered a brickyard and remained there for 35 years. He retired in 1918.
The only immediate survivor is one son, George Hild, Muscatine.
The body is at the residence and will remain there for funeral services to be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. john Haefner, pastor of Zion Lutheran church. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted. The George Wittich Funeral home, 201 Cedar street, is in charge of arrangements.
