Kenneth R. Geertz, 27, Atalissa farmer, was killed about 10 a.m. March 27 when his truck crashed into the side of a flat-bed, semi-trailer at the Atalissa highway overpass of Highway 6.

Geertz was pinned in the wreckage of his truck. He was pronounced dead at the Muscatine General hospital.

Geertz was headed west toward his home after repairs had been made on the stockrack of his truck at an Atalissa lumber yard. The pavement was slippery at the time of the crash.

Funeral services for Geertz were held March 31 at West Liberty with burial at Muscatine. The son of Louis and Hazel McIntire Geertz, he was born Oct. 12, 1934 and spent his life in the Cedar Valley community in Muscatine county. He graduated from West Liberty high school in 1953 and was in military service for 2 years.

He was married to Carolyn Brie of Nichols March 29, 1959. He is survived by his wife, a son, Brian, 3 months; a daughter, Kimberly, 2 years; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Schasnit, Davenport, and his mother, Mrs. L. K. Simpson, Muscatine. His father preceded him in death in 1953.
