George H. DeMean, 83, Moscow, died at his home Jan. 25, after an extended illness.

A retired farmer, he lived at Moscow 9 years. Prior to that he resided at Muscatine and in South Dakota.

Born May 18, 1878, in Germany, he was the son of John and Minnie Hammer DeMean. He came to the United States when 5 years old.

He married Clara Maxwell, who died in January, 1942. In July 1943 he was married to Nettie Myer.

Survivors include the widow, Nettie; a step-son Vernon Montgomery, Fulton, Mo.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Minnie McBride, Atalissa and Mrs. Dorothy Britt, Davenport; a brother, Claus DeMean, West Liberty; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Jan. 27, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Atalissa, with the Rev. Ervin Eden officiating. Burial was at the Tipton Masonic cemetery.
