Henry S. Jones, Retired Barber, Taken by Death
Arrangements for services are pending at the Riley Funeral Home for Henry S. Jones, 87, retired barber, who died at 9:50 p.mm. Tuesday at Carthage hospital, Carthage, Ill., following a three weeks illness. The body will arrive in Muscatine later today. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday.
Mr. Jones made his home at 511 East Tenth street. The son of George and Caroline Wolf Jones, he was born in November 1869 on a farm in Sangamon County, Ill., near Springfield. He had been a resident of Muscatine for the past 60 years. He was first married to May Hackett of Letts and her death occurred about 22 years ago. His second was to Bertha Baumgardner on Dec. 5, 1945. She died Nov. 9, 1955. Mr. Jones retired as a barber eight years ago. For many years he operated a barber shop on Mulberry avenue. He was of Lutheran faith.
Surviving are one son, Richard Otto Jones, with the U. S. Department of Interior in Alabama; one daughter, Miss Juaneta Jones, who is teaching in a college at Carthage, Ill.; one brother Charles H. Jones, Muscatine, two nephews and one niece, Earl H. and Donald M. Jones and Mrs. Ruth Vander Ploeg, all of Muscatine; several nieces in North Dakota; and two grandchildren.
In addition to both wives, he was preceded in death by three brothers.
