Cornelius Herrick, 78, retired farmer, died at his home, 213 West Fifth street, at 9:30 last evening, after an illness of several weeks with heart disease and complications.
Mr. Herrick was born Nov. 13, 1848, at Albany, N.Y., being the son of Stephen and Gertrude Breese Herrick. At an early age he moved to Iowa, where he has resided since, living in Muscatine county for the past 50 years and in Muscatine for the past seven.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Mr. Herrick was married to Miss Eva Frey of Letts, March 25, 1879.
Surviving Mr. Herrick are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Roy Baker, Muscaine, and two sons, Charles L. Herrick, Muscatine and Arthur C. Herrick, Clinton. One son, Stephen, died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Cole, died four years ago. Two sister, Mrs. Sarah Lanning, Lyndon, Ill., and Mrs. Cornelia Culbertson, Fairfield, Ia., also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the home by the Rev. Victor A. Bloomquist, pastor of the Musserville Methodist Episcopal church. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
The Wittich Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
