James Culverson Hays, 61, died at his home near Fruitland at 6 o'clock Monday evening, following a three months' illness of Bright's disease.
He was born at Idaville, Ind., on Aug. 18, 1863. He married Miss Effie Wilson on Aug. 30, 1908, ,at Pratt, Kas. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son by a former marriage, Glen Hays, whose whereabouts are unknown, by a sister Mrs. Nora Saunders, of Converse, Ind., by a brother, Ferdinand Hays of Indianapolis, and by a step-daughter, Mrs. Capitola Woods of this city. Six grandchildren, Madeline and Mildred Hays, and Clarence, Lotis, Beryl and Mary Woods of this city, also survive.
Mr. Hays was a railway engineer until about two years ago, when he retired. He has lived at his present home since his marriage in 1908. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and of the Masonic lodge.
His body is at the Meyers funeral home, where it may be viewed. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
