The Muscatine Journal and News Tribune Wednesday October 6, 1920
Charles Marion Hysinger was born in Letts, Iowa, July 24, 1896, and passed away about 5 p.m. Oct. 2, 1920 at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, Ia. He was the eldest son of John and Lucy Hysinger. In infancy he moved with his parents from Letts to Muscatine and spent the greater part of his life in Muscatine. At the time of his death his age was 24 years 2 months and 10 days. His mother passed away about three years ago, while a brother Clarence Lemuel, died in France a year later, with pneumonia, while serving with a medical unit. A brother and sister died in infancy.
He is survived by his father, step mother and three sisters, Iona and Estella at home and Mrs. Edna Phillips of Muscatine.
He served almost three years in the United States army during the World War, but did not get overseas, spending most of his time at the training camp near Houston, Texas. He was a member of Company H of the Third Infantry and received an honorable discharge from service April 1, 1920. His character was given as excellent and his service was honest and faithful. He was a member of good standing of the American Legion post of Muscatine and was well thought of by all who knew him.
He lived only a short time after the accident which caused his death, but was rational until the last. On the way to the hospital he told the doctor that he was going to meet his mother.
He said to the doctor, "I am dying." The doctor replied, "Yes, my boy, you are dying." At the hospital his last words were, "God have mercy on my soul," and he passed quietly away.
