Fred Dittmer, 85, a resident of Durant for 43 years, died at 10 p.m. March 31 at the Wilton Junction nursing home after an extended illness.

Born Sept. 2, 1875, in Muscatine county, he was the son of Max and Bertha Dittmer.

He was married Feb. 28, 1900, to Anna Broders at Davenport. They farmed in Muscatine county until 1918 when they retired to Durant.

Survivors include one son, Alan, Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Amanda) Mangels, Durant; a brother, Leonard, Durant; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Riessen, Hartley; 2 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Feb. 26, 1961; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral services were April 3 at Durant. Interment was at the Durant cemetery.
